A COUPLE say their dream engagement cruise trip was ruined after Thomas Cook gave them worthless currency.
Adam Murphy, 30, and fiancée Amy Pollard, 22, tried to buy food and water after docking at Helsingborg in Sweden.
But the couple, who paid £1,300 for the week-long trip round northern Europe, were told by shop and cafe owners their Kronas had been phased out last year.
Fitness instructor Adam of Whitegate, Cheshire, said:
“I was actually laughed at by some of the staff in the shop.
“They couldn’t believe that we were still carrying it around.
“It was just really embarrassing. It ruined our holiday and it also caused me to have a severe anxiety attack while away.”
The luxury cruise taking them to Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway was a Christmas and engagement present for Amy.

Thomas Cook apologised and reimbursed the couple for the out-of-date notes, adding: “A mistake was made with the Swedish Krona which was out of circulation.
“Our teams receive regular training and we will work with them to address how this error was made.”
