Hope for the best
The former vicar’s good friend Bob Hope is left cradling Ashley on the floor
EMMERDALE’S Ashley Thomas will collapse in tonight’s episode, with the vascular dementia-sufferers health deteriorating yet further.
Viewers will see the soap favourite, played by John Middleton, fall to the floor in his care home and cough up blood as his friend Bop Hope (Tony Audenshaw) desperately calls out for help.
Cradling Ashley on the ground as others can only watch on in shock, Bob’s vein’s pulsate as he shouts for assistance.
The incident is just the latest in a line of dramatic moments involving Ashley as the soap slowly cranks up the emotion towards his impending death.
Just days ago Ashley wandered off into the streets alone and vulnerable and it was too much for fans.
Flocking to social media, they shared their panic for the former vicar and heaped praise on actor John for his powerful portrayal.
“Ashley’s story is touching and brilliantly done. The acting is phenomenal,” said one.

“I’m going to miss Ashley so much I’m not ready for his family episodes,” she added.
After a brief visit home where he forgot his family and merely thought he was a vicar visiting a new family in the village, he was returned to his care home under some duress.
Refusing to change out of his outfit, a confused Ashley wandered into the hallway and was inadvertently let out into Leeds by a man who mistook him for a vicar.
He was last seen clutching his bible and wandering the streets lost, as the care home called his wife Laurel to tell her he’d gone missing.
John has played the part since 1996, and speaking about his character’s upcoming death to the Daily Mirror, he said: “That’s it, I’m done. I was feeling like someone had hit me over the head and said, ‘That’s it’. It was odd but also intensely moving.
“The filming of the last scenes was somewhat emotional, within the whole studio, you could have heard a pin drop.”
