ALL HAIL THE KING?
Fans were also left shocked by the William and Kate storyline
VIEWERS were left divided tonight over the much-anticipated BBC2 drama King Charles III.
Many took to Twitter to praise the show, which gave an account of what could happen when the Prince of Wales takes the throne, but some were left unsure.
Fans also noticed that the actor who played Prince Harry had played him before, but in a comedy role.
The show covered the death of the Queen, the dissolving of Parliament, riots across the country and Prince William betraying his father – with Kate Middleton playing a Lady MacBeth type role.
The show was also spoken completely in blank verse, giving it a Shakespearean feel to it.
The ghost of Diana even paid a visit to the Royals to give them words of wisdom.

This #KingCharlesIII is awful. So obvious and boring. Not very subtle, clever or saying much new. ???

Viewers however were left with mixed feelings, with some turning off in the first few minutes.
One said: “This #KingCharlesIII is awful. So obvious and boring. Not very subtle, clever or saying much new. ???”
This one tweeted: “#KingCharlesIII the royal family should sue the BBC”
Another said: “#KingCharlesIII Just tuned in. Not realistic”
But as the drama heightened, especially with the riots and William’s betrayal, praise was heaped on the production.
This one said: “Liking the Shakespearean feel to #KingCharlesIII. Beautifully written and acted, especially by the much missed #TimPigott-Smith”
While another viewer tweeted: “Just stumbled on #KingCharlesIII , that’s some good drama!”
This one commented: “This is absolutely brilliant – #KingCharlesIII”
Viewers were also left a little baffled by Prince Harry, played by Richard Goulding.
Is this Harry the same Harry as The Windsors Harry? That’s one actor with a job for life ? #KingCharlesIII

They immediately spotted that the actor had played the party Prince before in spoof comedy The Windsors.
This left viewers a little unsure as to whether they could take the character seriously.
This one commented: “#KingCharlesIII harry is same one as in #thewindsors”
This one tweeted: “Is this Harry the same Harry as The Windsors Harry? That’s one actor with a job for life ? #KingCharlesIII”
One said: “Quite enjoying #KingCharlesIII not enjoying the Harry character or his storyline!”
His story involved him being in a romance, not with an American actress named Meghan Markle, but with a British republican named Jess Edwards, who is at the centre of a sex scandal in the press.
Do you think William, Harry and Kate were watching through their fingers and squirming? #KingCharlesIII

Viewers were also left reeling by the Kate and William plot to overthrow the throne.
Many couldn’t believe how “nasty” the pair were portrayed as being.
Again this caused a reaction on Twitter with one saying: “Do you think William, Harry and Kate were watching through their fingers and squirming? #KingCharlesIII”
This one added: “#KingCharlesIII ooh William and Kate. Nasty”
Meanwhile, British star Tim Pigott-Smith, who played the lead as the fictional King Charles III, died before he could watch the finished production, after turning down the chance to see his performance.
Speaking to the Express, director Rupert Goold said: “The saddest thing of all is he never got to see the film. We kept offering to give it to him but he didn’t want to watch the work.
“He came in to re-do some of his audio recording, he wouldn’t really look at the screen. He had a sort of odd suspicion about watching himself. It was amazing because he was such a generous watcher of everybody else’s performances.”
Tim died suddenly last month at the age of 70 following a successful stage and screen career spanning decades
He was best known for his performance in 1984 miniseries The Jewel in the Crown.
