SERIAL reality TV contestant Jake Quickenden is ditching his old dreams of being a singer for a modelling career in a dramatically different venture.
The former X Factor star has confirmed he is now following a modelling career after missing out on a spot in The Jump 2017. So what do we know about him?
Who is Jake Quickenden, how old is he and what is his background?
Jacob Quickenden is a 28-year-old former X Factor and I’m A Celeb star.
He was born on 4 September 1988 in Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire to parents Paul and Lisa, and he has an older brother named Adam.
When he was young he worked as a lifeguard and was a semi-pro footballer.
Jake’s younger brother, Oliver, tragically died in 2012 aged 19 after suffering with a form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma.
His father, Paul, died of the same disease in 2008 and in 2016 Jake opened up about his depression following his family tragedies, saying on Loose Women: “’I went into a downward spiral.
“I’m not talking about it because I want pity but I decided to talk about it to let people know you can come out of it and be alright.”
When did Jake audition for X Factor?
Jake first tried out on The X Factor in 2012 where he sailed through the first round of auditions with a rendition of Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody – but he failed to impress Nicole Scherzinger at judges houses and she opted to take Rylan Clark to the live shows over him.
Returning in 2014, Jake had slightly better luck – making it through to the live shows, but crashing out of the competition in the third week.
He has since released an EP in 2015 (titled I Want You) and an album in 2016 (titled New Chapter) – but both failed to chart.
Will Jake return to football?
Before Jake got into music, he was playing football at a semi-professional level, playing for Scunthorpe United until his chances of playing for the club were scuppered due to a broken leg.
He continued to play after recovering from his injury, playing for Australia’s Sunshine George Cross Team and also Bentley Greens for two seasons.
In 2015 he was offered the chance to play for Gainsborough Trinity but “politely declined their offer,” as “his focus is on his music and presenting.”
What has Jake done since X Factor?
Before appearing on The X Factor, Jake dabbled in presenting – with appearances as a host on music shows where he travelled the globe to cover music events and interviewed music stars.
After his appearance on The X Factor – and with his profile rising – he presented on slots during This Morning and Lorraine. He has also appeared on Loose Women – and his other TV appearances have included Alan Carr’s New Year Specstacular and Kendra On Top.
However he’s now completely changed direction and signed up with Manchester’s Nemesis modelling agency.
He told us exclusively that he initially hated the idea of posing for photo shoots when he started modelling, but he is hoping for more success this time around.
Jake told The Sun Online: “I’m signing with Nemesis in Manchester – I’m doing my test shoot next week.
“I am a bit nervous. I signed for select in 2012 but I didn’t really like modelling but now I do.
“My confidence has grown. As hard as it is to believe, I didn’t really like being in front of the camera.
“I didn’t like watching what I ate either.”
Jake also told as that as well as continuing work on his music, he is also taking acting lessons and a course to help him become a personal trainer.
He added: “I’ve been having acting lessons and I’m in a musical with Jennifer Ellison later this year…
“I’ve been having acting lessons for a year now so it’s good to be jumping in and having a go…
“I’ve started my personal training course too.
“I’m two weeks into a six week course. I wanted to get something behind me.
“You see all these people releasing apps and DVDs and they might not be trained or have a course behind them so I wanted to get that.
“So if anything happens or anything big comes along I can go from there because I’ll be qualified and stuff…”
What other reality shows has Jake Quickenden appeared in?
Not content with missing out on The X Factor crown twice, Jake tried out for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here the same year he appeared on the singing contest the second time.
He munched through bush tucker trials and survived eliminations all the way to the final – where he fell at the last hurdle, coming second behind winner Carl “Foggy” Fogarty.
He did, however, manage to star on the Australian jungle reality show and make it back in time to appear on The X Factor final to see Ben Haenow crowned winner there.
In 2017, he signed up to act as a reserve for The Jump – the winter sports show known for the injury it causes the celebs who take part.
However Jake didn’t quite make it onto the slopes, despite several of the celebrities pulling out of the competition through injury.
Does Jake have a girlfriend?
Jake may have had terrible luck on the reality show conveyor belt, but he has come up trumps in love as a consequence.
Striking up a friendship with motorcycle legend Carl Fogarty, Jake was introduced to his daughter Danielle.
The couple have been dating since early 2015, but Jake played down marriage plans in July 2016, saying “We don’t want to put pressure on it.”
